The Perfect Family

“The Perfect Family”

May 12, 2024

Proverbs 24:3,4 (GNT)

Homes are built on the foundation of wisdom and understanding. Where there is knowledge, the rooms are furnished with valuable, beautiful things.

Matthew 5:48 (NIV)

Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Nothing less than the perfection of God is to be the ultimate objective of our

behavior, thoughts, and will.

2 Corinthians 13:11 (NIV84)

Aim for perfection.

We will AIM for the highest of PRIORITIES!

Colossians 3:1-4 (NIV)

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is yourlife, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

1 John 2:15-17 (MSG.)

Don’t love the world’s ways. Don’t love the world’s goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father. Practically everything that goes on in the world—wanting your own way, wanting everything for yourself, wanting to appear important—has nothing to do with the Father. It just isolates you from him. The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out—but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity.

Our AIM requires EXTREME changes!

Colossians 3:5-7 (NIV)

5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived.

“We change our behavior when the pain of staying the same becomes greater than the pain of changing.”

Dr Henry Cloud

Our AIM RIDS itself of all things contrary to Godliness!

Colossians 3:8 (NIV)

But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.

James 1:19,20 (NLT)

Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires.

We will take AIM at FASHIONING ourselves anew!

Colossians 3:9-11 (NIV)

9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices. 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. 11 Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (NLT)

Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

The fashion of a life redeemed is beautiful to behold!

We will AIM for EXEMPLARY character!

Colossians 3:12-14

12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgaveyou. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Galatians 5;22,23 (NCV)

But the Spirit produces the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. There is no law that says these things are wrong.

We will always AIM at being CHRIST-CENTERED!

Colossians 3:15-17

15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Let the PEACE of Christ rule!

Ephesians 2:14 (NLT)

For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us.

Be THANKFUL!

Let the WORD of Christ DWELL in you!

The peace of Christ RULES where the word of Christ DWELLS!

CELEBRATE in worship!

Ephesians 5:18-20 (NLT)

Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Do EVERYTHING in Jesus Name!

Our AIM is to be TEACHABLE!

Who we are is more important than what we do! But who we are

will determine what we do!

Colossians 3:18-21 (NIV)

18 Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. 20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. 21 Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.

Wives, SUBMIT!

Ephesians 5:22-24 (NLT)

For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church. As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything.

Husbands LOVE!

Christ SET the EXAMPLE for marriage. As a husband are you following that example?

Ephesians 5:25 (NLT)

For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (GNT)

Love is patient and kind; it is not jealous or conceited or proud; love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable; love does not keep a record of wrongs; love is not happy with evil, but is happy with the truth. Love never gives up; and its faith, hope, and patience never fail.

Children OBEY!

Exodus 20:12 (Msg.)

Honor your father and mother so that you’ll live a long time in the land that God, your God, is giving you.

Fathers SHAPE!

Proverbs 22:6 (GNT)

Teach children how they should live, and they will remember it all their lives.
